Why Waterproofing Fails So Often on Roof Terraces?
25.07.2025
Terraces are among the most exposed yet often neglected parts of a building. Sunlight, rain, wind, and temperature changes can easily damage poorly designed waterproofing systems. In coastal regions like Çeşme and Alaçatı, this risk is even higher.
At Küresel İnşaat, we apply long-lasting terrace waterproofing systems adapted to Çeşme’s coastal climate.
🔧 Most Common Waterproofing Mistakes:
No Waterproof Layer Beneath Tiles
An elastic, crack-bridging waterproof membrane must be applied before laying tiles. If skipped, water eventually penetrates through tile joints.
Improper Slope Design
A minimum slope of 2% is required to prevent water accumulation. Flat terraces stress the waterproof layer.
Incorrect Material Selection
Products not resistant to UV, moisture or freezing tend to peel, crack or blister—especially in sunny, salty air.
Ignored Drainage Details
Without proper rain outlets or sealed joints, water can't escape and finds its way into the building.
Incorrect Application Layers and Missing Reinforcement
Depending on the selected material, at least two coats and proper reinforcement (mesh or felt) may be required.
However, application technique must always follow the product's technical specifications.
✔️ Our Solution:
Terrace waterproofing is a system — not just a product.
At Küresel İnşaat, we use UV-resistant coatings, elastic waterproof membranes, and detailed drainage solutions tailored for Çeşme’s weather conditions.
We build terraces that resist time.
